Senior Substation Designer

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior Substation Designer to join our team at K&A Engineering in India. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. You’ll be part of a dynamic, people-focused team where your expertise, ideas, and contributions will be valued and celebrated.

Role Expectations:

Depending on discipline focus (Protection & Control or Physical), responsibilities include preparing and reviewing a full range of substation design drawings, calculations, and documentation. Typical deliverables include:

  • Prepare substation design drawings based on engineering markups, standards, and project requirements.
  • Develop and update CAD drawings using AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar platforms.
  • Produce accurate drawing packages for either P&C (schematics, wiring, one-lines) or Physical (GA, equipment layouts, grounding, conduit).

Protection & Control (P&C) Design

  • Draft one-line and three-line diagrams
  • Prepare AC/DC schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Create relay panel layouts, control building layouts, and cable routing plans.
  • Develop P&C bills of material and termination diagrams.

Physical (Primary) Substation Design

  • Prepare general arrangement drawings and equipment layout plans.
  • Draft grounding plans, conduit/raceway plans, and electrical connection details.
  • Produce elevation and section views for substation structures and equipment.
  • Develop detailed bills of material for physical equipment.

What we’re looking for:

  • Associate degree in Drafting, Electrical Technology, or related field; or equivalent industry experience.
  • 3–8+ years of experience in substation design (P&C, Physical, or both).
  • Experience working in a utility, EPC, or consulting engineering environment supporting substation projects (69 kV–500 kV).
  • Proficiency with CAD platforms such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar design tools.
