We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior Substation Engineer to join our team at K&A Engineering in India. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. Role Expectations:

Substation Physical Design Experience:

  • Substation physical layout, electrical clearances, rigid and strain bus design, ground grid design, surge and direct stroke protection, and raceway design.
  • Perform calculations such as AC/DC aux. load calculation, voltage drop, CT burden & saturation, lighting, and short circuit.
  • Prepare/create construction documents for installation of new or modification of existing substations including bill of materials, yard layouts, plans, sections, and electrical details.
  • Select, recommend, and prepare preliminary designs.
  • Perform calculations for lightning, grounding, lighting, insulation coordination and conduit fill.
  • Create/modify technical specifications for major equipment, such as power transformers, power circuit breakers, control houses, and other related materials.
  • Review design drawings and specifications to ensure projects meet acceptable standards of operability, functionality, maintainability, reliability, durability, and safety.
  • Substation Protection & Control Design Experience:
  • Create/modify one-lines, three-lines, control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel arrangements, and cable lists for 12-745 kV substations.
  • Experienced in relay selection and development of protection philosophy for green and brown field substations
  • Create relay setting database files and technical reports for relays associated with transmission lines, transformers, breakers, buses, and other associated devices.
  • Utilize system studies to evaluate or design protective relay and control systems for appropriate substation protection.

Substation Protection & Control Design Experience:

  • Create/modify one-lines, three-lines, control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel arrangements, and cable lists for 12-745 kV substations.
  • Experienced in relay selection and development of protection philosophy for green and brown field substations
  • Create relay setting database files and technical reports for relays associated with transmission lines, transformers, breakers, buses, and other associated devices.
  • Utilize system studies to evaluate or design protective relay and control systems for appropriate substation protection.

SAS/Communication and SCADA System Design:

  • Design and modification of substation automation system as per client requirement in line with utility standards to ensure safe and reliable operation of substation
  • Review of Vendor Specification and develop specification as per need
  • Conversant in IEC 61850
  • Design communication system and necessary interface as per client requirements
  • Prepare detailed design drawings for all communication equipment and interface

Others:

  • Create project scope descriptions and man-hour estimates with sufficient details to clearly define work and cost required.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced team members.
  • Collaborate across teams in different locations/cultures
  • Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of one's work following a robust QA/QC approach.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in substation design for US based utilities

What we’re looking for:

  • A bachelor’s degree Electrical Engineering is required (Masters preferred).
  • A minimum of 7 years-10 years of Substation Engineering or related electric utility experience is required.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, NEMA, and ANSI.
  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills in WinIGS, Power System Studies Software e.g.(SKM, ETAP, PSCAD, etc.)
